Opening Your Above Ground Pool

Its time to get your pool open. Here are a few procedure for opening an above-ground pool!

Depending on the weather, ideally, you will want to begin to open your pool around the end of April while there is still a little ice on the surface. In fact, it is recommended that you open the pool as soon as possible, to prevent evaporation of the chemical products put in the pool in the autumn.

PREPARATION

If you have followed our advice about closing the pool and sketched, photographed or filmed your filtration installation, you will find this very useful now.

Check the general condition of the pool, looking for the following problems: seized pump motor; cracks in the pump cover, basket or cover washer; hoses split; valves broken; collars or cramps loosened; airtight joints which have lost their seal; skimmer or water return in poor condition.

Perform any repairs necessary before continuing.

PROCEDURE

REMOVING THE WINTER BLANKET

Begin by removing as many leaves as possible using your leaf skimmer net and get rid of the water on the blanket. There are four ways of doing this:

  • Using a submersible pump;
  • Using a water ejector (with a garden hose);
  • Using the pool pump (the vacuum hose must be connected directly to the entrance to the pump);
  • By raising the water level as high as possible under the winter blanket (the filtration system must be connected). This will make the debris on the blanket easier to remove and help prevent it from falling into the pool;
  • Then remove the blanket, rinse it and leave it to dry before storing.
CONNECTING THE FILTRATION SYSTEM
  • Remove the Styrofoam kit from the skimmer;
  • Remove the Styrofoam plug from the bottom drain valve;
  • If the center of the valve was removed, reinstall it;
  • Cover the drain plugs (pump, filter, chlorinator) with Teflon ribbon, then reinstall them;
  • If applicable, connect the water heater.
CLEANING
  • Clean the water ring around the pool using 711 POOL PRODUCTS VINYL NET;
  • Adjust the water level to the three-quarter mark in the skimmer;
  • At the same time, replace the accessories: skimmer basket and cover, ladder (make sure that the ladder foot protectors are in place to prevent them from tearing the liner);
  • Perform a backwash for approximately 5 minutes to decompress and clean the sand in the filter;
  • Clean the pool with the vacuum. If it is very dirty, place the dial on 'DRAIN" OR "WASTE". In this case, do not forget to leave the garden hose running in the skimmer to maintain the water level at the three-quarter mark;
  • Perform two or three back washes.
POOL OPENING KIT
  • Verify the alkalinity and regulate it so that it is between 80 ppm and 120 ppm;
  • To find out which PERMA-SOLAIRE kit to use for your above -ground pool, refer to the instructions on the packaging or consult a Poolstubsliners.com representative.
  • Once all these operations have been completed, install the solar blanket.
